Ryan and Krissie Newman's dogs will join them in the Dec. 9 parade.,

HICKORY, N.C. (Nov. 3, 2006) – Ryan and Krissie Newman have been named grand marshals of the Dec. 9 Hickory Jaycees Christmas Parade due to their involvement with the Catawba County Humane Society.

The Newmans are honorary co-chairs of the Human Society's capital campaign and have pledged $400,000 towards the construction of a 14,000-square-foot, no-kill animal shelter, regional spay/neuter clinic and education center. Krissie is also on the organization's board of directors.

Parade Chairwoman Mandy Pitts said the couple's four rescue dogs – Digger, Harley, Mopar and Socks – also would ride in the parade with Humane Society members walking behind them.

Other members of the racing community who have been parade grand marshals are 1999 NASCAR champion Dale Jarrett and two-time NASCAR champion Ned Jarrett, both Hickory natives.
