Smile Noting Newman

- Sept. 12, 2006

-- Ryan Newman will make his 10th NASCAR Cup Series start at New Hampshire International Speedway on Sunday in his No. 12 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger and his 179th in the NASCAR Cup Series.

-- NHIS is one of five tracks where Newman has earned four or more Bud Pole awards in his Cup series career. In July, Newman earned his fourth pole at the 1.058-mile track. He has just two starts outside the top 10 - a 13th in September 2005 and a 16th in July 2003 - and seven top-10 starts, including five from the top five. Newman's average starting position at the track is 6.0.

-- NHIS is also one of only three tracks where Newman has earned multiple wins in the Cup series. Newman has won three Cup races at Dover International Speedway and two at Michigan International Speedway. At NHIS, Newman has two wins, including last September's Sylvania 300. Newman has only two finishes outside the top-10 in nine starts with both being 33rd or lower. Five of those finishes have been in the top-five. His average finish at the New England track is 11.33.

-- Newman has led at least one lap in each of his nine races at NHIS for a total of 515 laps. Twice Newman has led the most laps, including his first win at the track in September 2002 when he led 143 laps. Newman has had only one DNF at the track - an engine problem in September 2004 - and has completed 2,548 laps of a possible 2,615, giving Newman a 97 percent completion rate at the New England oval.

-- Crew chief Matt Borland and the team will take chassis PRS-55 to this weekend's Sylvania 300. This is the same car Newman drove in the July race at NHIS and to victory in September 2005. The car has been rebuilt a couple of times since then, however. In November 2005, the team took the same chassis to Phoenix where Newman was involved in a wreck during practice. The car was taken back to Phoenix in April 2006 and was involved in a wreck during the race.

-- The backup car for NHIS is chassis PRS-91. This car was run at the last two spring Richmond races. In May 2005, Newman finished third after qualifying second and in May of this year, Newman finished eighth after starting 14th.

-- Newman on New Hampshire International Speedway: "New Hampshire is a good track for this team. We've had success there in the past and we won this same race last year. I like going to Loudon and I think the team enjoys going there as well. It's definitely a place where we go into the race knowing that we can win."

"With all the struggles this team has had this year, we could really use a win and everyone believes that this track definitely gives us a good shot at doing that this year. A win here would give this team some momentum going into the off season and preparing for the 2007 season."

Quick Stats:
New Hampshire International Speedway: 9 Races Led/Laps Led: 9/515
Best Starting Position: 1 (three times) Best Finishing Position: 1 (twice)
September 2005 Start: 13 September 2005 Finish: 1

Isn't N.H. where Newman won last year to start off the chase? Has he won all year? If not, that is very unusal for him and his team. He is due! Good luck

Thanks desert! Yes he won this race last year to kick off the chase races. He has won here twice, so I am hopeful.........Yes, he is due, he's really had a bad year, no wins yet. But hey, all drivers have them! Best of luck to Robby, too!

Noting Newman - Sept. 19, 2006

-- Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will make his 10th NASCAR Cup Series start at Dover International Speedway on Sunday and his 180th in the NASCAR Cup Series.

-- Newman has earned three Bud Pole Awards at Dover in nine races. He won the pole for the Neighborhood Excellence 400 in June and for the MBNA RacePoints 400 in September 2005. His first Bud Pole at Dover came in the June 2003 race. Newman has only started one race at Dover outside the top five - a 38th-place start in the June 2002 race. Newman's eight straight top-five starts is the longest current streak at Dover. His average start at the track is 6.44, which leads all active drivers at the "Monster Mile".

-- Newman also has performed quite well in the Dover races. In his nine previous starts at the 1-mile oval, Newman has finished outside the top 10 only twice, including a 24th in June 2004 and a 14th in June 2006. Along with three Cup victories, Newman has seven top-10 finishes, including five in the top five. His average finish at Dover is 7.33.

-- Newman has led six races at Dover for 644 laps. He has finished 3,976 laps out of a possible 4,004, giving him a 99.3 percent completion rate.

-- Matt Borland, crew chief of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, and the Alltel team will take chassis PRS-79 to this weekend's Dover 400. This car was driven at Bristol in August where Newman qualified 21st and finished eighth. It was also run in the June race at Dover where Newman earned the Bud Pole. Before that, it was driven in Atlanta in March when Newman started second and finished 18th.

-- The backup car for Dover is chassis PRS-76. This car was run at Chicagoland in July where Newman started 12th and ended up 36th. Before that, Newman drove the car three previous times this season, most recently at Michigan. Newman used this same chassis at Lowe's Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600, where he finished 35th after starting 18th, and at Darlington in May, where he placed sixth after starting second. Newman also tested this car at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 3. Last year, Newman raced this car at Chicagoland Speedway. Prior to the 2005 Chicago race, the car was used in May at Darlington and at Charlotte, and in June at Michigan. The car qualified on the front row in each of the four 2005 races, winning two poles - one at Charlotte and the other at Michigan.

Newman on Dover International Speedway: "Dover is one of my favorite tracks. The banking makes it nice to pass and race the other cars. I've had a lot of success there in the past. This team and the Busch team have gone to Victory Lane there four times before and we're hoping to do it again this weekend."

Quick Stats:
Dover International Speedway: 9 Races Led/Laps Led: 6/644
Best Starting Position: 1 (three times) Best Finishing Position: 1 (three times)
September 2005 Start: 1 September 2005 Finish: 5

Cool Noting Newman - Oct. 10, 2006

-- Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will make his 12th NASCAR Cup Series start at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Saturday and his 183rd in the NASCAR Cup Series.

-- Newman has had just one start outside the top four at LMS – an 18th in this year’s Coca-Cola 600. Newman has earned five Bud Pole Awards and has started second twice and fourth three times. His average start at the 1.5-mile track is 3.55.

-- It hasn’t gone quite as well for Newman when it comes to finishing a race at LMS. With an average finish of 19.45, Newman has six top-10 finishes, including four top fives. He has four finishes from the 35th position and below, including a 35th in the Coca-Cola 600 in May of this year.

-- Newman has led six races at LMS for 222 laps. He has completed 3,216 laps of a possible 3,837. That is an 84 percent completion rate.

-- Crew chief Matt Borland and the Alltel team will take chassis PRS-79 to this weekend’s Bank of America 500. This car was last driven at Dover in September when Newman started fourth and finished 24th. It also was driven in Bristol in August when Newman qualified 21st and finished eighth. It ran in the June race at Dover as well when Newman earned the Bud Pole. Before that, it was driven in Atlanta in March when Newman started second and finished 18th.

-- The backup car for Charlotte is chassis PRS-76. This car was raced at Chicagoland in July when Newman started 12th and ended up 36th. Before that, Newman drove the car three previous times this season; most recently at Michigan. Newman used this same chassis at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600, when he finished 35th after starting 18th, and at Darlington in May, when he placed sixth after starting second. Newman also tested this car at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 3.

Newman on Lowe’s Motor Speedway: “It’s nice to be back home in Charlotte for the weekend. Most of the drivers and teams consider Lowe’s our home track and racing here this weekend gives everyone a little bit of a break during this final stretch of the season. We don’t have to travel, we can sleep in our own beds and everyone gets to see their family at the end of the day.”

“We had a good car last weekend in Talladega. There was really nothing wrong with the handling of the car and the crew didn’t have to make adjustments at all during the race. Hopefully, we can head into Charlotte and have the same thing happen this weekend. The first race at LMS this year didn’t go very well for this team, so we’re definitely looking to have a better race this time around.”

Quick Stats:
Lowe’s Motor Speedway: 11 Races Led/Laps Led: 6/222
Best Starting Position: 1 (five times) Best Finishing Position: 2 (October 2003)
October 2005 Start: 2 October 2005 Finish: 7

Wink Martinsville

Noting Newman - Oct. 17, 2006

-- Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will make his 10th NASCAR Cup Series start at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday and his 184th start in the NASCAR Cup Series.

-- In nine races at the 0.526-mile oval, Newman has never started outside the top 10. His lowest start was 10th, which occurred during his first career start at the track in April 2002. Since then, Newman has only had one other start outside the top five, an eighth in October 2003. His other seven starts included two poles, a second, two third-place starts and consecutive starts from the fourth position in the past two races. Newman’s average starting spot is 4.0, the best among all active drivers.

-- Newman always seems to do well at the short tracks and Martinsville is no exception. Newman has had only two finishes outside the top 20 – a 38th and a 41st – and another two outside the top 10 – 18th and 15th. The 18th-place finish occurred during this year's Virginia 500 in April. Newman’s five other finishes include five top 10s and four top fives. His average finish at the Virginia track is 15.44.

-- Newman has led four races at Martinsville Speedway for a total of 83 laps. He has completed 4,190 laps of a possible 4,500, giving Newman a 93.1 percent completion rate.

-- Crew chief Matt Borland and the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger team will take chassis PRS-69 to this weekend’s Subway 500 at Martinsville. The car had two top-10 finishes last year and has been used as a back-up car at Richmond in May and Loudon in July. Borland and the Alltel team took this car to both Martinsville races in 2005. In April, Newman had a flat tire at the race's beginning and lost a few laps, but he was able to drive the car back to the front and finish fourth. In October, the car finished 10th at Martinsville. The team also tested this car at Richmond International Raceway earlier this year.

-- The backup car for Martinsville is chassis PRS-91. This car was run in the last two spring Richmond races. In May 2005, Newman finished third after qualifying second and in May of this year, Newman finished eighth after starting 14th.

Newman on Martinsville Speedway: “Even though we’ve struggled on the intermediate tracks this year, we’ve done well on the short tracks. We always seem to have a good run on the short tracks, so I’m happy that we get one more shot at a short track this season. With only five races left, we’d really like to have a good top-five finish and earn a win for our team and our sponsors before the season is over.”

Quick Stats:
Martinsville Speedway: 9 Races Led/Laps Led: 4/83
Best Starting Position: 1 (twice) Best Finishing Position: 3 (October 2004)
October 2005 Start: 4 October 2005 Finish: 10

Noting Newman - Oct. 24, 2006

-- Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will make his 10th NASCAR Cup Series start at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday and his 185th in the NASCAR Cup Series.

-- Newman has never started a race at the 1.54-mile track outside the top 10 and only one of his starts has come from outside the top five – a sixth-place start in October 2002. Newman has won six straight Bud Pole Awards, a feat which no other driver in NASCAR history has accomplished at the Georgia track. He swept the award in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Newman’s other two starts at the track have been from the second position; he possesses the longest current streak of nine consecutive top-10 starts. Of the 514 drivers who have competed at AMS since it opened in 1960, Newman has the best starting average of any of them – 1.78.

-- Newman’s finishes haven’t been quite as strong at the intermediate track. In nine starts, he’s finished inside the top 10 four times, including one top-five finish. Newman has three finishes outside the top 20 and the final three have been in the teens. Newman’s average finish at the track is 18.67.

-- Newman has led a lap in every Cup event he’s run at AMS, giving him a total of 159 laps led in nine races. He has had only one DNF at the track and has completed 2,837 laps of a possible 2,848. Newman has a completion rate of 99.6 percent.

-- Crew chief Matt Borland and the No. 12 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger team will take chassis PRS-46 to this weekend’s Bass Pro Shops 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This car was run once in 2006 at the NASCAR All-Star Challenge in May at Lowe’s Motor Speedway where Newman finished fifth. The car was used in four races last year: the Coca-Cola 600 at LMS; the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway; the MBNA RacePoints 400 at Dover International Speedway; and the Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway. In all of those races, except Kansas, Newman finished fifth. He placed 23rd at Kansas.

-- The backup car for Atlanta is chassis PRS-76. This car was last run at Charlotte two weeks ago. After a rear-end housing cracked, Newman finished 27th. At Chicagoland in July, Newman started 12th and ended up 36th. Before that, Newman drove the car three previous times this season, most recently at Michigan. Newman used this same chassis at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600, where he finished 35th after starting 18th, and at Darlington in May, where he placed sixth after starting second. Newman also tested this car at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 3.

Newman on Atlanta Motor Speedway: “This is another one of those tracks where we’ve always been able to qualify well, but we haven’t been able to make it stick through the entire race. We’ve struggled so much on the intermediate tracks this year and we’d like to just find out what is going on before the year is over to get ready for next year. We run a lot of races on the mile-and-a-half tracks and we’d like to go into the 2007 season feeling like we can run well and win a few races at this type of track. Three of our four remaining races are intermediate tracks, so we’ve got three chances to figure out what our problem has been before next year.”

Quick Stats:
Atlanta Motor Speedway: 9 Races Led/Laps Led: 9/159
Best Starting Position: 1 (six times) Best Finishing Position: 5 (March 2004)
October 2005 Start: 1 October 2005 Finish: 23

Homestead

-- Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will make his fifth NASCAR Cup Series start at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday and his 188th in the NASCAR Cup Series.

-- Newman has never earned the Bud Pole Award at the 1.5-mile track, but he has had three consecutive top-five starts. His first start at the track in 2002 came from the 15th position. Since then, Newman has started fourth (2003), third (2004) and second in last year’s Ford 400. Newman’s average start at the track is 6.

-- Newman has had good and bad finishes at Homestead. In four races, he has two top-10 finishes and two from the 30th position or lower. His finishes of 37th and 30th came after accidents. Newman’s average finish at Homestead is 20.

-- Newman has led three of the four races he’s competed in at Homestead for a total of 133 laps. He has two DNFs at the South Florida track. One DNF came with only seven laps remaining in 2004 when an accident on lap 264 removed Newman from contention. He has completed 920 laps of a possible 1,072 for an 85.8 completion rate.

-- The Alltel team will take chassis PRS-048 to this weekend’s Ford 500. This car was last driven in Texas for the Dickies 500. Newman qualified 24th and finished 34th. This car was also driven in Kansas and California where Newman qualified 15th and 12th, respectively. Before that, this car was driven at Michigan International Speedway in the GFS Marketplace 400. Newman started fourth, but finished 25th after dealing with a variety of problems during the race. This car was also tested at Kentucky this year, but before that, it had not been on a track since the 2003 season. In September 2003, Newman drove the car at Loudon where he started on the pole and finished ninth. In November of that year, he started on the pole at Phoenix and finished third.

-- The backup car for Homestead is chassis PRS-076. This car was last run at Charlotte five weeks ago. After a rear-end housing cracked, Newman finished 27th. At Chicagoland in July, Newman started 12th and ended up 36th. Before that, Newman drove the car three previous times this season; most recently at Michigan. Newman used this same chassis at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600 where he finished 35th after starting 18th, and at Darlington in May where he placed sixth after starting second. Newman also tested this car at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 3.

Newman on Homestead-Miami Speedway: “It’s been a tough year for this team and I think we’re all ready to see it come to an end and start working on 2007. This is our final chance to earn a win and we’ll all go out there and give it everything we can.”

Quick Stats:
Homestead-Miami Speedway: 4 Races Led/Laps Led: 3/133
Best Start: 2 (November 2005) Best Finish: 6 (November 2002)
November 2005 Start: 2 November 2005 Finish: 7
