Newman Looks To Continue Success At 'Monster Mile'
Ryan Newman possesses the best qualifying average and the second best finishing average at Dover.,
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 31, 2007) – Dover International Speedway has been a very good track for Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Dodge Avenger.
Newman, who will make his 11th Cup start at the "Monster Mile" and the 201st of his Cup Series career this weekend, possesses the best starting average of all active drivers at the 1-mile Delaware track with a 6.2. He also is just behind Tony Stewart for the best finishing average at 9.0. Stewart has an 8.9 finishing average.
All but one of Newman’s 10 starts have been from the top five, with three of them being Bud Pole Awards. His lone start outside the top five occurred in his Cup debut at Dover in 2002 when he qualified 38th.
Along with his three poles, Newman has visited Dover's Victory Lane three times, while seven of his 10 starts have concluded with a top-10 finish. Newman’s first win at the track came in June 2003, the same weekend he earned his first pole on the high-banked, concrete speedway.
In 10 previous races, Newman has led 672 laps in seven events, fifth among the active drivers. He has completed 3,975 laps of a possible 4,004, giving him a 99.3 percent completion rate. Newman has also been running at the end of every Cup race in which he has competed at Dover. In only two of those events, Newman did not finish the race on the lead lap.
Crew chief Mike Nelson and the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Avenger team will take chassis PRS-515 as the primary car to Dover for yet another COT race. This car was last used in Richmond where it was a new car for that race. In that event, Newman started 30th and finished sixth.
The back-up car is PRS-509. This chassis has been taken to every COT race this year, but has not been used.
The Autism Speaks 400 presented by Visa will be broadcast live from Dover International Speedway by FOX and MRN Radio beginning at 1 p.m. EDT.

Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will make his 11th Cup start at Pocono Raceway. It will be his 202nd career start in the Cup Series.
Newman has an average start of 10.4 and an average finish of 15.4. Newman has earned one Bud Pole Award at Pocono -- July 2003. He has only one start outside the top 20 -- a 30th in August 2004. Newman has five in the top 10, including four in the top five.
Newman has four top-five finishes at Pocono, including a victory in July 2003 that occurred after he had won the pole. Three of Newman’s other six starts have ended in top-20 finishes with only three being 30th or lower.
Newman has led 140 laps in seven events, including 88 laps during his 2003 victory run. He has completed 1,929 laps of a possible 1,979, giving him a 97.5 percent completion rate.
Crew chief Mike Nelson and the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger team will take chassis PRS-104 to Pocono as the primary car. This car last ran during the California race in February when Newman started 19th and finished 12th.
The back-up car is PRS-097. This chassis has been tested at Kentucky and Nashville this year, but has not been raced.
Newman's Thoughts On Pocono: “We had a really strong run earlier this week at Dover and we came so close to getting a win, but we just didn’t have as fast a car as Martin [Truex Jr.] did. I’m very happy with the way this team is running and it’s just a matter of time before it’s our turn to be in Victory Lane again. The guys in the shop and at the track are working so hard and they’ve been giving me really great cars. The pit crew did an awesome job last week in Dover and I’m really looking forward to racing at Pocono and getting this Alltel Dodge back into Victory Lane.”

Newman dominates Pocono qualifying, wins third straight pole

LONG POND, PENNSYLVANIA (TICKER) -- Ryan Newman is in a familiar starting position - at the front of the NASCAR Nextel Cup field.
Newman dominated Friday afternoon's qualifying session at Pocono Raceway and will start from the pole Sunday in the Nextel Cup Pocono 500.
It was the fourth pole this season and 41st career for Newman, who clocked 170.062 miles per hour in a Dodge Charger and circled the 2 1/2-mile tri-oval in 52.922 seconds. He has started from the pole in each of the last three races.
"That was a good lap. I can't complain about it at all," Busch said. "The guys are doing a great job. I don't know what else to say. They're making them comfortable for me to drive, and I'm just pushing the pedals.
"We had a good car at Dover, just not quite good enough. I think this car has potential to be a dominant race car."
But despite his outstanding starting position, Newman has failed to capture a checkered flag over the first 13 events this season. His best finish of the campaign came Monday at Dover, where he was the runner-up to Martin Truex Jr. in the Autism Speaks 400.
The 29-year-old Newman also went winless last year and has not visited Victory Lane since September 2005 at New Hampshire, a drought of 58 consecutive races.
"As long as we keep putting ourselves in position and qualifying as well as having fast race cars in the race as well as getting those top-five and top-10 finishes, we'll be in position (to win) at some point," Newman said. "It'll be nice to click off three wins in a row and not just three poles in a row."
If he wants to finally end that skid Sunday, Newman will have to beat out Denny Hamlin, who won both Nextel Cup races at this track last season. Hamlin nearly knocked Newman off the pole Friday, qualifying second at 169.278 mph in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
Hamlin made history at Pocono last season, cruising to comfortable victories in this 200-lap event and in the Pennsylvania 500 on July 23. He became just the second rookie in series history to win both races at a single track and the sixth driver to complete a season sweep of both Pocono races.
Truex qualified third in a Chevrolet, followed by the Chevys of Kyle Busch and Clint Bowyer. Current series points leader Jeff Gordon will start 18th in a Chevy.

Three-Peat: Newman Earns Third Straight Bud Pole Award
Saturday, June 9, 2007
Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, earned the Bud Pole Award for the third consecutive week in Pocono 500 qualifying Friday at Pocono Raceway, giving him four for the year and tying him with Jeff Gordon for the most poles in 2007.
Newman, who had to sprint down pit road to take his qualifying lap after some troubles getting through technical inspection, laid down a lap that was six-tenths faster than then provisional pole sitter, Kyle Busch, who had recorded a lap time of 53.520 seconds. After all 49 cars made their qualifying run, Newman was ahead of Denny Hamlin's second-place car by 0.245 second.
“It felt really good. Obviously, the conditions got pretty good just like right now with the cloud cover around the track. It was a good run for the Alltel Dodge. I thought I could have pushed it a little harder because it stuck so good,” Newman said during media interviews on pit road.
“These guys are doing a great job. We did six laps today in practice, three in race trim and two in qualifying trim and an idle lap besides that. It was an abbreviated practice for us, but they did a good job unloading a fast race car right off the truck. That makes a big difference.”
Newman now has 41 career poles. The last time he sat on the pole at Pocono – July 2003 – Newman led 88 laps and won the race for his only career victory at the 2.5-mile Pennsylvania track.
Sunday’s Pocono 500 will air live on TNT and MRN Radio beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT.
Line-up for the Pocono 500:
1. Ryan Newman, No. 12 Alltel Dodge
2. Denny Hamlin, No. 11 FedEx Ground Chevrolet
3. Martin Truex, Jr., No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Chevrolet
4. Kyle Busch, No. 5 Kellogg’s/CARQUEST Chevrolet
5. Clint Bowyer, No. 07 Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet
27. Kurt Busch, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge

Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will make his 12th Cup start at Michigan International Speedway. It will be his 203rd career start in the Cup Series.
Newman has an average start of 9.5 and an average finish of 14.8. Newman has earned one Bud Pole at MIS -- June 19, 2005. Newman has only three starts outside the top 10; two 12th-place starts and a 42nd, which occurred during this race last year when he spun during his qualifying lap. Of his eight top-10 starts, five of them have been from the top five.
Newman has four top-five finishes at MIS, including two consecutive victories -- August 2003 and June 2004. Four of Newman’s other finishes have been inside the top 15.
Newman has led 91 laps in seven events. He has completed 1,965 laps of a possible 2,129, giving him a 92.3 percent completion rate.
Newman and the Alltel team will use chassis PRS-071 this weekend. It was last used at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600. Newman won his first of three consecutive Bud Pole Awards with this car, but an engine failure eliminated him from the race. This chassis also ran in Texas, Las Vegas and Atlanta. The backup car is chassis PRS-053. It was tested at LMS in May, but has not been used in a race.
Newman On Michigan: “Michigan is my favorite track to race at. You can have really good side-by-side racing there and it’s a fast track. I’m excited to get to Michigan. We’ve been running so well and this is my home track. I have a lot of great memories here. We are so close to getting our next win and it would be awesome to get that win at Michigan. We’ve done it here before and this Alltel Dodge team has been working so hard and given me really fast race cars. I think we’re definitely capable of winning this weekend.”

Ryan Newman can't win every pole, but he produced a good lap nonetheless in qualifying Friday for this weekend's Citizens Bank 400 at Michigan International Speedway.
After only a 32nd-place run in Friday's practice, Newman picked up a second from the practice session to qualify fourth for Sunday's 200-lap race on the 2-mile track.
"I lost a little in (turns) one and two, but the Alltel Dodge was definitely good," Newman said. "The guys made some improvements after practice and they really seem to be working. We didn't have the best practice session, but we experimented with a few things to see what worked for the car and what didn't. We didn't get a great qualifying run in during the session."
This race will be Newman's ninth top-10 start at MIS and his sixth from the top five.
Sunday's Citizens Bank 400 will air live on TNT and MRN Radio beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT.
Line-up for the Citizens Bank 400:
1. J.J. Yeley, No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet
2. Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet
3. Kyle Busch, No. 5 Kellogg's/CARQUEST Chevrolet
4. Ryan Newman, No. 12 Alltel Dodge
5. Joe Nemechek, No. 13 Haier Chevrolet

Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Avenger, will make his sixth Cup start at Infineon Raceway. It will be his 204th career start in the Cup Series.
Newman has an average start of 13.4 and an average finish of 7.8. He has started each of his five races from the 22nd position or higher, but he has only one top-10 start at Sonoma—a fourth in last year’s race.
Newman has four top-10 finishes at Infineon—his lowest was 14th in 2004—and two top-fives, including a career-best second in last year’s event.
Newman has led 11 laps, all in 2006. He has completed 100 percent of the laps possible at Sonoma—550 out of 550 — since he made his debut at the road course in 2002.
Newman received the Mobil 1 Command Performance of the Race award for his second-place finish at Pocono Raceway on June 10.
This weekend, Newman and the Alltel team will use chassis PRS-517. It is a new COT car that Newman tested at Virginia International Raceway on June 13. It has not been on any other track. The backup car is PRS-511. This COT car ran at Martinsville in April. Newman qualified 24th after spinning during his second qualifying lap and avoiding the wall. He finished 14th in the race.
Newman On Sonoma: “I like driving the road courses; it’s a nice change of pace. I’ve had some success at both Infineon and Watkins Glen, so I always look forward to driving at those two tracks.”
“We had a little bit of a setback at Michigan. There was nothing we could’ve done differently. We had a good car, we just ran into some bad luck. We’ve got a really good COT program, so we’ll head out to Sonoma and try to get back some of the momentum we lost this weekend.”

Newman Starts in the Top-10 for 1st Road Course Race of 2007
Friday, June 22, 2007
Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Avenger, earned the ninth starting position for Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350 in Friday's qualifying session that gave him his second top-10 at Infineon Raceway.
Newman, who went out second to last in qualifying, recorded a lap of 92.051 mph, 77.826 seconds, just five-tenths of a second behind pole winner Jamie McMurray.
“I thought we were going to be better than that. We were eighth or whatever in practice, and I think we did some things to pick up the speed,” Newman said. “We had a really good draw. It was a conservative lap. I was conservative on purpose, but I thought it was going to be faster than that even being conservative. I think I was probably too conservative in the first part of the track and got too aggressive in the wrong spot. I hurt myself double. We’re working on some things to make the car better, but I think we’ll be good in the race.”
Newman earned his only other top-10 start at Infineon last year when he qualified fourth and finish second – also a career best for Newman in Northern California.
Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 will air live on TNT and PRN radio beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT.
Line-up for the Toyota/Save Mart 350:
1. Jamie McMurray, No. 26 Crown Royal Ford
2. Robby Gordon, No. 7 Monster Energy Ford
3. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., No. 8 Budweiser Chevrolet
4. Boris Said, No. 60 Raley’s/SOBE No Fear Ford
5. Tony Stewart, No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet
9. Ryan Newman, No. 12 Alltel Dodge
14. Kurt Busch, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge

Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will make his 12th Cup start at Daytona International Speedway. It will be his 206th career start in the Cup Series.
Newman has an average start of 22.6 and an average finish of 20.7. Newman has only one start from inside the top 10—a ninth in the 2005 Daytona 500.
Newman has two top-10 finishes at Daytona, including a career-best third-place finish in the 2006 Daytona 500. He has four other finishes inside the top 20.
Newman has led 27 laps in four races at Daytona. He has completed 93 percent of the laps possible at DIS—1,782 of 1,917—since he made his Cup debut at the track in 2002.
The chassis the Alltel team is taking to Daytona as its primary car is PRS-099. This was the car Newman drove in this year's Daytona 500. The car was running in the top three when a crack in the radiator eliminated Newman from the race. The backup car is PRS-065. It was Newman's primary car in this year's Bud Shootout.
Newman On Daytona: "We had a great race going in the 500 back in February and had a top-three car, but we just had problems that took us out of the race. We’ve had really good cars at the superspeedways the last few races. I’m looking forward to driving the old cars at Daytona for the last time. I know the Alltel Dodge team will give me another fast car and hopefully, we’ll have a little better luck this time around and be able to get another top-five finish at Daytona.”

Newman Starts 14th at Daytona After Rain Cancels Qualifying
Friday, July 6, 2007
Ryan Newman, driver of the No.12 Alltel Dodge Charger, will start further up in the field than expected in Saturday night’s Pepsi Firecracker 400 due to rain canceling qualifying Friday evening at Daytona International Speedway.
Newman, who was 28th in the qualifying order of 53 cars, made his two-lap timed run and was 24th quickest immediately after his effort. However, with 14 cars left to qualify, it began raining, leaving NASCAR officials no choice but to cancel time trials and set the field by owners’ points. That leaves Newman 14th on the grid.
Jeff Gordon, the series points’ leader, will sit on the pole for the 160-lap race on the 2.5-mile track – the final restrictor-plate race for the old cars.
“We didn’t bring the car here to qualify. We brought it here to race, and that’s what we worked on all day yesterday,” Newman said after his two qualifying laps. “What we got qualifying is what we got qualifying.
"This is the same car we had here in February. We put more downforce in it for grip so we can have the fastest car at the end of the run. I think it’ll get single filed out. As it gets closer to night, everybody is going to start handling better. It’ll take more time for handling to go south on us.”
Saturday night’s Pepsi Firecracker 400 will air live on TNT and MRN Radio beginning at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
Line-up for the Pepsi Firecracker 400:
1. Jeff Gordon, No. 24 Pepsi/DuPont Chevrolet
2. Denny Hamlin, No. 11 FedEx Kinko’s Chevrolet
3. Matt Kenseth, No. 17 R+L Carriers/DeWalt Ford
4. Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet
5. Jeff Burton, No. 31 AT&T Mobility Chevrolet 14. Ryan Newman, No.12 Alltel Dodge
16. Kurt Busch, No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge
