Won first career NASCAR Cup race in September at New Hampshire International Speedway. Won the prestigious The Winston at Lowe's Motor Speedway after emerging victorious in the Open, which immediately preceded the all-star event.
Earned six pole positions, the most of any competitor, breaking Davey Allison's 1987 rookie record.
Ended impressive rookie season in sixth in the point standings, collecting 22 top 10s and 14 top fives.
2001: Competed with the precedent-setting "ABC" schedule, which consisted of two ARCA, 15 NASCAR Busch, and seven Cup events.
Earned first career Cup pole in the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Finished a career-high second at Kansas Speedway.
