Thumbs up New Sponsor For Marlin

Ginn Racing announced today that Panasonic Broadcast will be a primary sponsor on Sterling Marlin's No. 14 Chevrolet for 12 races during the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup season. The agreement also calls for Panasonic to be a major associate sponsor on the No. 14 for the other 24 point races that will comprise the 36-event Nextel Cup schedule.

"To finalize a sponsorship package is always an accomplishment, but to finalize it with an outstanding and high-profiled company such as Panasonic makes it even better," said team owner Bobby Ginn. "As part of the Ginn Racing commitment, we not only want to lead on the track, but we also want to be a leader with our sponsors and make sure they are getting a valuable return on their investment. We look forward to our new partnership with Panasonic and welcome them to the Ginn family of sponsors."

Panasonic Broadcast & Television Systems Company, a leading supplier of broadcast and professional video products and systems, is a unit company of Panasonic Corporation of North America.

"We are thrilled to be associated with the Ginn organization and with Ginn Racing in particular. Like Panasonic, they place great value in quality," said John Baisley, president of Panasonic Broadcast. "We are equally thrilled that our customers will be able to watch the Ginn Racing team on their Panasonic plasma displays, the premier display technology to fully and accurately demonstrate the speed and excitement of NASCAR and the Ginn Racing Team."

Panasonic joins Waste Management as a 12-race primary sponsor on Marlin's Chevrolet.

Smile Marlin Finishes 12th in Thursday's Gatorade Duel Qualifying Race

Ginn Racing, Press Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2007)-- Sterling Marlin turned in a 12th-place performance in Thursday's Gatorade Duel 150-mile qualifying event.

Though Marlin had a respectable finish at Daytona International Speedway, it wasn't among the top-two for the non-qualified drivers in the race. His entry in Sunday's Daytona 500 reverts back to his qualifying speed during Pole Day on Sunday. Because of a complicated qualifying format, Marlin will start 40th in NASCAR's biggest race of the year.

"Luckily we earned our spot in the race on Pole Day, so we didn't have quite as much pressure tonight as some teams did," said Marlin. "But I really thought we'd have a better finish than we did. The Waste Management Chevy was just a little loose out there at the end. I then got tapped from behind by someone in the closing laps and lost a lot of spots."

Marlin continued, "It's unfortunate because we had a great car and ran in the top 10 the whole race until the last few laps. Had we been able to finish a just a few spots higher we would've had a much better starting spot on Sunday."

Marlin's Ginn Racing teammates, Mark Martin and Joe Nemechek, were also in Marlin's Gatorade Duel. Nemechek finished ninth, earning a 20th-place start for the 500, while Martin finished 14th and will start 28th on Sunday.
"We'll be good for the big show on Sunday," offered Marlin. "The Waste Management/Panasonic Chevrolet came out of today's event dent-free and we'll pick up some more steam in the next couple of days. Three of our Ginn Racing Chevys are in the race and I'm looking forward to working together with my teammates and going to the front."

Sunday's Nextel Cup event will be broadcast live on FOX beginning at 2 p.m. ET.

Talking Marlin Escapes Accidents; Finishes 17th at Daytona

DMF Communications For Ginn Racing, Press Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 18, 2007)-- Sterling Marlin narrowly escaped several multi-car accidents in Sunday's Daytona 500 and was headed for a top-10 finish before being collected in a last-lap incident and wrecking across the finish line in 17th place.

Due to the complicated qualifying format for NASCAR's biggest race, Marlin started the 202-lap event at Daytona International Speedway from the 40th position, forcing him to drive through many accidents to get to the front.

"We had a heck of a day," said the two time Daytona 500 champion. "I have to give a lot of credit to my spotter (T.J. Majors) because he did an incredible job saving me from every single accident-- and there were some big ones."

The race, which ended in overtime with a green-white-checkered restart, saw six cautions for 26 laps with only 27 cars ending on the lead lap. The final caution, on lap 202, is ultimately what cost Marlin a top-10 finish.

"We narrowly escaped a lot of pileups today, including the last one," offered the veteran driver. "I was running 10th and looking down the frontstretch at the checkered flag, thinking I was clear of the wreck, when the 25 car (Casey Mears) hit the wall and shot back down the track into us."

Marlin added, "There was nothing we could do. I just took my foot off the brake and slid across the finish line."

Marlin's yellow and green Chevy came to a stop in the infield grass where Marlin climbed out and walked to the garage.

"It's disappointing because we had a top-10 car and were so close to a top-10 finish," said Marlin. "Slugger (crew chief Slugger Labbe) did a great job calling the race, we had some speedy pit stops, and again, the spotter did an awesome job. For such a wild race, I guess I'll take a top-20 finish and hope to better it next week in California."

Regarding his Ginn Racing teammate Mark Martin finishing a close second to winner Kevin Harvick, Marlin said, "It was disappointing not to see Mark win the race. I was pulling for him. He had a great car and if anyone deserved to win this race, it was Mark."

The next stop on the Nextel Cup circuit will be California Speedway on Feb. 25. The Auto Club 500 will be broadcast live on FOX beginning with a pre-race show at 3 p.m. ET.

Thumbs up Marlin Heading To California With Plenty of Confidence in No. 14 Panasonic Chevy

DMF Communications For Ginn Racing, Press Release

FONTANA, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2007)— Sterling Marlin started from the back of the field (40th) in last week’s season-opening Daytona 500 and drove his way to the front, heading for a top-10 finish before being collected in a wreck on the last corner of the final lap.

But despite the 17th-place finish he was credited with, Marlin is full of confidence as he heads to California Speedway with his Ginn Racing team for Sunday's Auto Club 500.

“Last weekend produced a disappointing finish, but that’s the only thing that was disappointing,” said Marlin, who will pilot the No. 14 Panasonic Chevrolet in this weekend’s race. “Our car was fast off the truck, we had a great qualifying effort on Pole Day and a solid race during the (Daytona) 500."

“Unfortunately we got collected in an accident on the closing lap," Marlin added. "But the fact remains that we had a great overall performance during Speedweeks and that’s where the confidence we’re taking with us to California comes from.”

As the team travels to the West Coast for Sunday’s Nextel Cup event, crew chief Slugger Labbe believes another strong showing is in store for his No. 14 Panasonic team.

“All the guys on the crew did an exceptional job throughout Speedweeks,” said Labbe. “We’ve been working hard in the off season to improve at the intermediate tracks and I’m looking forward to showing off what we’ve done."

“Right now we’re top 20 in points,” Labbe continued. “I want to go to California, pick up a top-10 finish, and start climbing our way even higher in the standings.”

This weekend's 250-lap, 500-mile event marks the first of 12 races that Panasonic will be the primary sponsor on Marlin's No. 14 Chevrolet. They will be an associate for the remainder of the season.

“We’ve got a good race team and a good chance for a top 10 or better finish this weekend,” added Marlin. “Giving Panasonic a solid result their first weekend on the side of my car would be a pretty cool thing, and I have all the confidence in the world that we can get that done."

Sunday's event will be broadcast live on FOX beginning with a prerace show at 3 p.m. ET.

Last week at Daytona

Marlin started 40th, finished 17th. Was in the 10th position when the 25 car (Mears) shot down the track and into the side of his car during the final wreck (Lap 202). Currently 17th in driver point standings.
Last year at California

Marlin started 17th, finished 32nd. Fought an ultra-tight car throughout the event. Fell to 37th in driver points following the event.

Unhappy Cut Tire Relegates Marlin to Disappointing California Finish

DMF Communications For Ginn Racing, Press Release

FONTANA, Calif. (Feb. 25, 2007)-- It wasn't the finish Sterling Marlin was looking for in his first race behind the wheel of his Panasonic Chevrolet. But when he cut a left-rear tire on Lap 54 of 250 and made hard contact with the outside wall, his chance for a strong finish vanished.
"What an unlucky break," said a frustrated Marlin. "We had just come in for a green-flag pit stop and when I returned to the track and put the Panasonic Chevy in high gear it suddenly hooked right and headed into the fence. I had no warning at all."

Marlin's car struck the outside wall before spinning down the race track and coming to a stop in the infield grass. He managed to restart the machine and drove it to the garage area where his Ginn Racing team began to work on the damage. He returned to the track on Lap 107.

"We struggled with the handling of the car all weekend but it was coming around," said Marlin, who was credited with a 35th-place finish. "We had a pretty good run going and were making good adjustments. I just hate it for the Panasonic team. We can't seem to find any luck."

Speaking of bad luck, Marlin was scheduled to start the Nextel Cup event from the 27th-position, but was forced to drop to the rear of the field prior to the start as a result of the team changing the car's transmission earlier in the weekend.

"Seems like bad luck follows this team around," Marlin continued. "But that's part of racing. Some things you just can't control and this was one of them. We have to sweep it under the rug, keep our heads up, and start focusing on the next race."

The Nextel Cup series will enjoy a weekend off before heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the March 11 UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400.

Unhappy Engine Failure Halts Marlin's Top-10 Run in Las Vegas

DMF Communications for Ginn Racing, Press Release

LAS VEGAS (March 11, 2007)-- The result did not match the performance for Sterling Marlin and his Waste Management race team in Sunday's Nextel Cup event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

What looked like a top-10 finish for the veteran driver quickly turned to a disappointing 34th-place result when the engine in the No. 14 Chevrolet expired on Lap 251 of 267.

"We had a great day and a disappointing finish-- that sums it up," said crew chief Slugger Labbe. "Sterling drove a great race and the guys did an awesome job in the pits. It's unfortunate, but it's part of racing."

Marlin started the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 from the eighth spot and maintained his top-10 position for the majority of the race. He was in the 11th spot and closing back in on 10th when he reported to his team that he didn't have power.

"I wasn't sure what happened," said Marlin. "I thought I just lost power. But when I came into the pit so the guys could change the battery they discovered that the motor had let go."

"It's frustrating for everyone," he continued. "To work so hard all weekend and then to have such a good day today-- it's just really disappointing when things go down hill with 16 laps to go. But I'm proud of everyone on the team and how good the Waste Management Chevrolet was today. We'll just have to get them next week."

Labbe added, "Hendrick Motorsports gives us incredible horsepower every week and sometimes things like this still happens. We had a good day and a strong, top-10 run. We just have to keep our heads up and move on to next week."

Atlanta Motor Speedway is the next stop for the Waste Management team. The Nextel Cup Series Kobalt Tools 500 (March 18) will be broadcast live on FOX beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET

Wink Marlin Looking to Snap Eight-Race Jinx

DMF Communications For Ginn Racing, Press Release

HAMPTON, Ga. (March 13, 2007)—Since an 11th-place finish at Lowe’s Motor Speedway last year (Oct. 15, 2006), Sterling Marlin’s Ginn Racing team has found itself running from bad fortune. The No. 14 Panasonic team is hoping to break the jinx this weekend when they head to Atlanta Motor Speedway for Sunday’s Nextel Cup event. “You can’t always blame things on bad luck, but we’ve had our share of it since the end of last year,” said Marlin, whose best result in 44 starts at the 1.54-mile Atlanta oval is runner-up, which he accomplished twice -- at the fall races in 1995 and 2001.

Below is an outline of the eight straight races that Marlin’s team has encountered misfortune.

· Martinsville Speedway (10/22/06)— After qualifying 22nd for the Nextel Cup event and ranking first and fourth respectively in the previous day’s practice sessions, Marlin was forced to settle for a 21st-place result.

As Marlin rounded the track under a caution period with fewer than 20 laps remaining, NASCAR informed the team there was something hanging from the back of the racecar and ordered Marlin to come down pit road and have the piece removed. When Marlin arrived in the No. 14 pit stall, nothing was found on the rear bumper.

· Atlanta Motor Speedway (10/2906)--With only 16 laps remaining in the Nextel Cup event, Marlin was collected in a five-car accident, causing damage to the No. 14 Chevrolet and sending the team to a 20th-place finish.

Marlin started the 325-lap, 500-mile event 35th, but had climbed into the top 15 when the Lap 309 accident occurred.

· Texas Motor Speedway (Nov. 5, 2006)—When the No. 21 car (Ken Schrader) cut a tire on Lap 174, Marlin was hit from behind by Mark Martin when he slammed the brakes to avoid Schrader. The contact forced Marlin to the garage where the team went to work on the extensive damage to both the front and rear of the machine. He was credited with a 40th-place finish.

· Phoenix International Raceway (11/12/06)—Marlin was hit from behind by Jeff Green as they entered Turn 4 on the one-mile track.

"I don't even know what happened," said Marlin, who finished 40th. "Jeff got into the back of me and just turned me around. I don't know what he was thinking-- nothing led up to it, just all of a sudden I was in the wall."

· Homestead-Miami Speedway (11/1906)-- Despite starting from the top 20 and piloting a strong Chevy throughout the Nextel Cup season finale, bad luck continued to haunt the No. 14 race team as a faulty engine relegated the them to a 37th-place finish.

· Daytona International Speedway (02/18/07)-- Marlin narrowly escaped several multi-car accidents in the Daytona 500 and was headed for a top-10 finish before being collected in a last-lap incident and wrecking across the finish line in 17th place.

· California Speedway (02/25/07)-- It wasn't the finish the team was looking for in its first race with the Panasonic Chevrolet. But when they cut a left-rear tire on Lap 54 of 250 and made hard contact with the outside wall, any chance for a strong finish vanished. Marlin finished 35th.

· Las Vegas Motor Speedway (03/11/07)-- Marlin started the event from the eighth spot and maintained his top-10 position for the majority of the race. He was in the 11th spot and closing back in on 10th when he reported to his team that he didn't have power. What looked like a strong finish for the veteran driver quickly turned to a disappointing 34th-place result when the engine in the No. 14 Chevrolet expired on Lap 251 of 267.

Sunday’s (March 18) Kobalt Tools 500 will be broadcast live on FOX beginning with a pre-race show at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Thumbs up No Worries About Qualifying, Marlin Feeling Upbeat for Martinsville

DMF Communications For Ginn Racing, Press Release

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (March 27, 2007)—With his No. 14 team in the top 35 in owner points entering this weekend’s Nextel Cup event at Martinsville Speedway, driver Sterling Marlin says the next goal for the Ginn Racing crew is to remain there.

Below, Marlin answers questions about his place in owner point standings, the Car of Tomorrow and what he expects this weekend at Martinsville.

Q. How does it feel to be in the top 35 in owner points and not have to worry about racing your way in each week?

A. It’s a big weight lifted off everyone’s shoulders. When you enter race weekend the number one goal is to win on Sunday — that’s the only thing that’s natural to us. So to come to the track each week and have to think about Friday (qualifying session) before you can start thinking about Sunday is frustrating.
Our next goal is to remain in the top 35 by consistently being competitive each week. Now we can come out and start focusing on making the Panasonic Chevrolet fast for the race. It’s a big relief.

Q. Because of some bad luck at the end of the 2006 season, this is the first time you won’t have to qualify for a race on speed since Texas last November. What are your thoughts on that?

A. I’m thankful we made all the events we weren’t locked in to and that we can put it behind us now. We have to focus on being competitive and avoiding trouble so that we can climb through the point standings.

Q. Of all the drivers who had to qualify for each of the first five events on speed, you were the only one who made all five races. What does that say about this race team?

A. It just shows what a strong, smart group of people we have working under the hood of this Panasonic Chevy. Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) has made great calls and everyone on the team has done an outstanding job of putting fast race cars beneath me. It’s a credit to everyone—not just the guys who are here on the weekends but to all the people back at the shop who work on this No. 14 Chevy.

Q. You had a 14th-place finish at Martinsville last spring and were closing in on a top 10 last fall when NASCAR brought you down pit road and you ended up 21st. How do you think your Panasonic team will perform in this weekend’s Goody’s Cool Orange 500?

A. I’ve had some good runs at Martinsville Speedway in the past—including the last couple of times we were there. Last fall we had driven from the back to the front and were looking at a top 10 when NASCAR made us come down pit road because they said something was hanging off the bumper of the car. But when we got to the pits, there was nothing there. So that was pretty frustrating.
But I’ve always liked Martinsville and know Ginn Racing brings good cars there, so I think when the green flag drops we should be able to collect a good finish.

Q. Sunday’s event is another Car of Tomorrow race. What do you think of the new car?

A. It’s hard to base too much off what we saw at Bristol since that’s a track where aerodynamics has virtually no effect. I think when we get to some bigger tracks we’ll be able to make a better assessment.
I don’t like them as much as the traditional ones, but NASCAR is going to make us drive them so we have to figure out a way to be competitive. The bottom line is, the change is being made, so we have to go along with it. But I still think they’re funny looking.

Last spring at Martinsville Speedway

Marlin started last spring’s event from the sixth spot and fought an ultra-loose racecar to take home a 14th-place finish.
Last event at Bristol Motor Speedway (March 25)

Marlin started the 500-lap event 21st. Despite the Waste Management Chevrolet being both tight and loose at times during the Food City 500, Marlin was able to stay out of trouble and finish 30th. He also secured a spot in the top 35 in 2007 owner point standings.
