DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Tuesday that Tony Stewart has been fined $25,000 and penalized 25 Nextel Cup Series driver championship points, as a result of using inappropriate language during a post-race televised interview following his victory Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Chevrolet, retains his fifth-place standing in the series points, with his total points reduced to 2,599.
Stewart violated Section 12-4-A of the series rule book (actions detrimental to stock car racing) by using the inappropriate language.
In addition, Stewart's car owner, Joe Gibbs, has been penalized 25 car owner championship points because of the infraction.
tubby??? tony has been losing weight to get up the fences eating at subway with jared..... and ESPN is a CABLE CHANNEL ... pay channel... if it were on an free... yeah right free network.... anyhow... they can get away with bull dung... soooo I really doubt the FCC will be involved... unlike Jr's slip a few yrs ago on network TV... they...NA$CAR might fine him... but that would be because they wannna prove a point... we'll soon find out... fines are usually announced tuesday at ten eastern!....
and Kyle's was on a replay flash... the tv edit guys F'd that one not kyle!
Yea Tubby, lol. Stewart took two steps up the fence and quit! Lol!
Subway isn't working for Stewart, lol.
I guess there is no difference between regular and cable tv.I think it's bull.It was a fight on national television that put this sport on the map.Now you can't bump anybody or say one little word before they want to fine somebody.
Judging from the comments by 24hendrick48 our sport is the way it is because of people like that. They would rather come on here and just bash drivers instead of having something intelligent to say
If you watch the replay from after Tony WON it sure looks like more than 2stepsup that fence
I guess there is no difference between regular and cable tv.
Guess not! I thought there was.
I can only guess that Nascar felt they had set a precedent from when Jr. had his lil' slip. Therefore needing to follow through with the same penalty here.

First of all, who are you to judge? Your post was certainly no pearl of wisdom!
If my comment about Stewarts' weight problem is bashing, what do you call insulting my intelligence? You need to lighten up! If I reacted like you when someone disrespected one of my drivers, I'd be in a coma from stroke complications!
Whether it was 2,3 or 4 steps, the point is he didn't make it to the flag stand which has been the point in the past. Two weeks ago he made it to the flag stand but had to go down the stairs instead of the fence, lol!
This is a public forum where people can voice their opinions without fear of reprisal. Every ones' opinion is welcome, even mine! I'll thank you not to cast aspersions on my character!
Tony Stewart punk'd ESPN: Penalty is small price to pay
The envelope please. And the penalty goes to, Tony Stewart!
No surprises here when NASCAR handed Nextel Cup's bad boy a $25,000, 25-point penalty on Tuesday that doesn't even drop him from fifth place in the points race. And so what if Carl Edwards had passed him anyway, Stewart's still going to be in The Chase where it all starts anew.
Stewart didn't slip when he swore on ESPN's live victory interview after the Brickyard 400. He got even with ESPN for the opinions of its commentators, Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon. They concluded last week that Stewart is a bad role model for children because he said he was going to drink a case of Schlitz beer after getting his first victory of a frustrating season two weeks ago at Chicagoland.
"This one's for every one of those fans in the stands who pull for me every week and take all the (expletive) from everybody else," Stewart told the ESPN victory lane interviewer.
Stewart has said and done a lot of things that seriously damage his role model status, but the beer joke wasn't one of them. So he got even.
Look at the picture above. See the microphone approaching for the fateful interview? See the look on Tony's face? This is the same guy who didn't bother to tell his boss he was racing without permission at a dirt track the night before the big race at Indy. This is the same "bad role model" who had a cute little niece and nephew lined up for the ceremonial convertible victory ride around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on smiling Uncle Tony's lap.
Stewart knew from past penalties for live TV curses exactly what NASCAR would do. He knew it was worth the price, and he was waiting for that ESPN interviewer.
Look at that picture again and remember what Stewart said when he was stalking Kevin Harvick out on the track: "Here kitty, kitty, kitty."
