Smile Travis Kvapil Food City 500 Bristol NSCS Race Preview

Yates Racing, Press Release

Quoting Yates Racing Driver, Travis Kvapil:

What makes Bristol one of your favorite tracks to race at?

“Bristol is a track that I really like going to and it’s one of my top-three favorite tracks on the circuit. It’s a track that reminds me of Friday and Saturday night dirt track racing in Wisconsin growing up. The atmosphere is great at Bristol and I’ve been fortunate enough to have had a lot of success there. I think that one of the main reasons I enjoy racing there is because I have a pretty good feel for what it takes to get around the track. Bristol makes you charge hard when you’re in the thick of the pack and you have to be confident enough to keep on the gas. You also have to be aware of what’s going on around you because it’s so easy to get caught up in a wreck there.”

Does patience come into play more at a track like Bristol?

It’s a track that you definitely have to race the race track and you have to be patient, but at the same time you have to be on the gas and going because it is such a tight little track that it becomes too easy to fall a lap down. Bristol does test the patience of a driver because it’s in our nature to want to pass cars that may be slower than our own, but you realize that in order to be there at the end of the 500 miles still intact, sometimes you need to bide your time and wait for the correct opportunities to make your move.”

Quoting Yates Racing Crew Chief, Todd Parrott:

“I’m really looking forward to the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile Track” this weekend. Our car that we’re taking this weekend is actually a car we purchased from Roush Fenway Racing and is the car that Carl Edwards won the 2007 Sharpie 500 in so based on that, I’m felling pretty good about our chances. Qualifying at Bristol is very important as well as pit selection. Track position is key, and if you qualify well, it’s a bit easier to hold on to track position. Our goal is to stay up towards the front of the pack and have a clean race so that we can be there at the end of 500 laps with a strong finish.”

NOTES OF INTEREST:

· Kvapil will have media availability at the No. 28 hauler from 10:30am-11:00am on Friday, March 14th
· Kvapil has an average starting position of 26.2, and an average finish of 21.5 at Bristol

· Kvapil has completed 1848 of 2000 career laps at Bristol (92.4 percent)

· Kvapil’s best finish at Bristol is seventh which he accomplished in the 2005 Food City 500

CHASSIS #464

Chassis #464 is the chassis the No. 28 Yates Racing team will be running this weekend for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Yates Racing purchased this chassis from Roush Fenway Racing in 2008. This is the same chassis that Carl Edwards won the 2007 Sharpie 500 with.
